Naperville, Illinois, is a suburban city of Chicago sitting in DuPage and Will Counties. One of the very first people to have arrived in the area was Joseph Naper and family. After embarking on a voyage across the Great Lakes that lasted nearly two months, they would establish the Naper’s Settlement in 1831. In addition to that, several families joined the settlement of which would eventually become Chicago and Dexter Grove. Over 100 hundred families had arrived at Naper’s Settlement by 1832 but found themselves in perilous danger as the Black Hawk Wars threatened the area. Following the Indian Creek massacre on May 21, 1832, many of the settlers in the area were forced to flee to Fort Dearborn to prevent being attacked by Black Hawk and his band of Sauk warriors. As a result, the United States government built Fort Payne at the Naper Settlement, and the settlers returned. In 1834, they established Pre-Emption House and the settlement became a favorite stagecoach stop for travelers on their way to and from Chicago and Galena. Today, Fort Payne and the Pre-Emption House are considered historical landmarks and are a part of the Naper Settlement Outdoor Museum Village.
There are many things about Naperville that attract potential homebuyers to the area, with one of the primary reasons being the fact that it’s only 45 minutes from downtown Chicago. Another important thing that makes Naperville such a great place to own a home are the many natural spaces in the area. One example is the family-oriented Knoch Knolls Nature Center, featuring kid-friendly exhibits, an aquarium, live animals, and a playground. Then there is Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park located at 8301 Janes Avenue in Woodridge, a bayou-themed waterpark featuring a 1-meter diving board, a Tube Slide, a 10-foot drop slide, a 600-foot long, 13-foot wide “crazy river,” as well as many other rides. Furthermore, there are also a few malls and shopping centers in Naperville that offer residents all the name brand retail stores and restaurants you would expect to find in any big city. There is Naperville Route 59 95 Plaza located at 2747 Forgue Drive and Riverbrook Shopping Center located at 1523 North Aurora Road, as well as a few others. Adding to the allure of owning property in Naperville, Illinois, is the fact that you’re less than an hour from O’Hare Airport, as well as many other famous destinations in the Chicago metropolitan area.
